LCCI Saturday dispatched the second consignment of relief goods
The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry Saturday dispatched the second consignment of relief goods consisting of 22 truckloads of eatable of worth 7.5 million. The goods included Flour, Ghee, Sugar, Rice, Dry Milk, Pickle, Dates, Biscuits, Tea, Roasted grams, Dal Channa, Salt, Red Chilli, Candles, Match boxes, 12-litre Water bottle and a tent. The second consignment was seen of by the LCCI President Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, former Presidents Mian Tajammal Hussain, Mian Anjum Nisar, former Senior Vice President Sohail Lashari, former Vice President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad and Executive Committee members including Mudassar Masood Chaudhry, Mian Zahid Javaid, Marghoob Shakir Izhar and Dr. Shahid Raza. The first consignment of Rs.3.5 million relief goods had already been delivered to the flood affectees of Multan and Muzaffargarh. The LCCI President Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry said that all segments of society would have to join hands for the early rehabilitation of flood affectees as the devastation scale is much bigger and the government alone cannot cope with it. The LCCI President said that a third aid convoy having relief goods worth more than 7.5 million would be dispatched within two to three days. He said the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was arranging food supplies, clothing, medicines and tents from the funds it was collecting from its members and truck loads of these supplies would be dispatched to all parts of the province. He said the LCCI members would personally supervise the distribution of relief goods and apprise the Chamber members of further needs of the affected people. He said that the business community of the city would not let the funds dry. The response to LCCI appeal for donations was overwhelming” said President LCCI Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry adding that this has given a new strength and encouragement to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry whose members are working for the rehabilitation of their brothers and sisters with a new vigor. mHe said that the calamity caused by the floods is extremely severe. “Government alone cannot cope with the situation” he said adding that the whole national particularly those with better resources would have to rise to the occasion and play their role in reducing the stress of flood victims.
