LABARD seeks role in policy making for disabled

Federal and Provincial governments should evolve effective policy for physically challenged people in consultation with organizations like LABARD that are working for the rehabilitation of disabled with devotion and dedication. This was consensus among the speakers at Wheelchairs distribution ceremony. LABARD Senior Vice President Mian Nusratuddin, Naghmana Javed, Joint Secretary Madiha Aijaz and other governing body members were also present on the occasion. They said that federal and provincial governments should evolve solid strategy to solve the problems of physically challenged people. Further more, they said that the developed countries are giving special attention to the disabled persons. Not only buildings have special ramps but also facilities are being provided at all public places. They said that disabled persons in Pakistan are facing many difficulties due to lack of proper attention and the government should divert his attention towards the issue and ensure proper facilities at all building and public places. They said that disabled persons could play a special role for prosperity of the country as they have some special God gifted abilities. They said that there are many examples that disabled persons have done excellent jobs in many fields.
The LABARD has also arranged jobs for these disabled persons with an objective to give them courage to stare in the eyes of physical disability they have been suffering with. The Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) has so far arranged jobs for hundreds of disabled persons and it is soon coming up with a state-of-the-art training center in Lahore where the disabled persons would not only be imparted with training in various faculties but arrangements would also be made for their placements in different organizations. At the LABARD, a number of services including medical assistance, counseling of mentally disabled persons, speech therapy, Qarz-e-Hasana and crutches, tricycles are being provided absolutely free of cost. The number of disabled persons who got themselves registered with the LABARD for availing these facilities is now in thousands. In his address, the LABARD Finance Secretary Mohammad Saeed Khan said that rehabilitation of disabled persons is a sacred job and everybody should come forward to play his role. He said that the LABARD was getting a very good response from the registeration camps it was holding at Union council level. He said that in the developed world, the disabled persons are always given a special treatment, they are provided with every possible facility so that they could use their abilities for the well-being of society and now the situation in Pakistan was also taking a positive turn and a large number of disabled persons are running their own businesses with the help of LABARD.
